Southwest FTC

FTC, or FIRST Tech Challenge, is a league for middle and high school aged students that builds smaller robots (18” by 18” max and can easily be lifted easily by one person), competes on a smaller field (12’ x 12’) in smaller venues and whose main season runs from the beginning of September through early January.

In 2023 FTC team 22178 infrared formed at Anthony middle school which is the only feeder school for southwest high school. Due to increased interest in 2023 infrared decided to split into a second team of gamma rays.  For 2025 infrared decided to relocate to southwest high school for better facilities opportunities. This year the team qualified for state and were a finalist for the motivation award. After graduating members of infrared have gone on to join ultraviolet.

For students who are in  Anthony middle school we encourage students that are interested in Robotics should join FTC.   Any students currently enrolled at Anthony Middle School in 7th or 8th grade are encouraged to check out Southwest FTC.

Those in 6th grade or younger should look into MPS GEMS/GISE after-school and summer STEM programs or connect with High Tech Kids to find a FIRST Lego League team in the area.
